These crunchy little delightful cocoa nibs underwent a light low temperature roast that serves to enhance their flavor and also to retain more of the potent antioxidant punch that pure chocolate delivers.
Just what are cocoa or cacao nibs? They are the pieces of smashed cocoa beans prior to the grinding process that eventually leads to the creation of our beloved chocolate in its many forms. They are without sweetness.
Cacao nibs are reputedly quite versatile and can be used in place of nuts in many recipes and will provide a subtle chocolate flavor. A few ideas to whet your appetite:
sprinkled on yogurt, ice cream, pudding, etc.
add to peanut butter or other nut butters. Hmmm...a PPCN&J sandwich?
add to a variety of cookies, cakes, pancakes, muffins and?
grind in a coffee grinder or similar device and add to smoothies. Add blueberries for a powerful one-two anti-aging antioxidant punch.
Lisa's favorite: Toasted slice of Shiloh Farms sprouted kamut bread, coconut butter, poached egg sliced upon the bread with cocoa nibs sprinkled on top!
add to favorite granola or trail mix (the possibilities are endless).
